Introduction


As the Library of Congress is a large institution with several buildings, there are no standard hours of operation for all of its buildings.Β  All buildings are closed on Sundays, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.Β  The Jefferson building remains open on all other federal holidays but the Adams and Madison Buildings are closed.


The Thomas Jefferson Building is open:


Monday – Saturday


Β 8:30am – 4:30pm


The James Madison and John Adams buildings have special hours for researchers and staff and are not open to the public past 6pm.


The James Madison Building is open:


Monday - Friday


8:30am - 9:30pm


Saturday


8:30am - 5pm


The John Adams Building is open


Monday, Wednesday, Thursday


8:30am - 9:30pm


Tuesday, Friday, Saturday


8:30am – 5pm
